.
Glow sought out the best machine, with the highest percentage of whitening agent for the best results
for our clients.
Here is a Q&A Section, if you have additional questions, please call the Shop 781-380-3533.

1.  What Machine do we use?
The Theraglow SmileMachine;  It is made by a company that has been selling to Dental offices since the
80’s and has recently altered their machine for salon/spa use.  It is a way for our clients to have  a
simple, convenient, comfortable, quick and cost effective way to whiten their teeth.

2. Is it safe?
Yes, every component in the process is FDA approved.  The light source is not heat based and therefore
will not damage the teeth or its pulp; It DOES NOT USE LED….  LED is heat and heat can hurt teeth.
It uses a Xenon light wave which filters out harmful UV and infrared light that can potential harm teeth.

3. How does it work?  Will it hurt?
Teeth whitening systems rely on the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen through a
process of oxidation.  The release of an electron in the process is the ultimate cause of the bleaching of
stains that are held in the tooth's enamel.  H2O2 can be broken down by both heat and light.  Safe light
is good,  heat is not good, as heat can permanently damage the teeth.

4. How much peroxide is in it?
9%; this is the highest percent by law any one outside a dental office can apply to the teeth

5. How does it compare to a dental office? And who does the treatment?
Dental offices charge hundreds of dollars for their whitening services.  There are multiple reasons for
this: higher overhead, having a dentist or hygienist apply the whitening agent, higher percentage of
peroxide.
The cons of a dental office is : Cost, higher tooth sensitivity , because their whitening agent requires a
heat source, and  gum sensitivity.
The Pros of a dental office is: if you have dental issues (caps, crowns, veneers) they can whiten and then
whiten your dental work right there, the peroxide is a higher amount and therefore can lighten your teeth
faster, yet can cause sensitivity issues (see above)
Who does the treatment?
Essentially , you.  We provide the product, all the prep work and the lightening machine; but, you put the
pre loaded tray in your mouth and hold the light source in your mouth.

6. What results should I expect?
That depends a whole lot on you.  There are 3 types of clients:

Client One - This client is new to the teeth whitening experience.  This person does not use teeth
whitening toothpaste or mouthwash, has never used at home teeth whitening strips or paint on kits.
Their teeth tend to be more on the yellow side.

For Client One's best results Glow suggests the following:
A. Client purchases the THREE session pack.  When they come to Glow, they will receive 2 sessions in
one sitting.  They will go home, use teeth whitening toothpaste, teeth whitening mouthwash and return in
48-73 hours for their 3rd treatment.  We have found this maximizes your teeth whitening results.   Your
technician will discuss your specific situation with you.

Client Two - This client does use at home whitening products, perhaps have used strips or other type
brush on products. But, he/she drinks a lot of coffee and/or tea, sodas, smokes or uses products that
stain the teethes enamel.

For Client Two's best results Glow suggests the following:
A Client buys the THREE session pack.  When they come to Glow, they will receive 2 sessions in one
sitting.  They will go home, use teeth whitening toothpaste, teeth whitening mouthwash and return in 3-6
months for their 3rd treatment.  We have found this maximizes your teeth whitening results and
maintains longevity of results.  Your technician will discuss your specific situation with you.

Client Three -This client does use at home whitening products, perhaps have used strips or other type
brush on products.  They have also had their teeth professionally bleached with in 3 years OR their teeth
are considered a nice white color already.  This client is looking for more of a boost to their whiteness.

For Client Three's  best results Glow suggests the following:
A Client buys the ONE session pack.  When they come to Glow, they will receive 1 session.  They will go
home, use teeth whitening toothpaste, teeth whitening mouthwash as their regular routine.  This client
may come back in 6-9 months for a touch up.   We have found this maximizes your teeth whitening results
and maintains longevity of results.  Your technician will discuss your specific situation with you.

7. How long do the results last?
That depends on the person; on average 9 months to a yea. r  Anyone who is a tea, coffee or red wine
drinker or smoker will stain their teeth faster than someone who is not,  although, it is a rare situation
when the teeth ever revert back to the original yellowness.  The Northeast is know for a condition call
flourosis.  Flourosis is where the teeth have lighter and darker spots due too much flouride as a child.
The white will get whiter and the darker areas will get lighter, but these will never match naturally and
will never match chemically , BUT WILL look much improved

8.  How can I make my results last longer?
As stated above , use teeth whitening at home products.  Also, maintain good dental health by getting
cleanings two times a year.  Glow also sells a take home, brush on kit.  This kit is affordable and you can
brush it on your teeth anytime you want to re brighten your session OR use as a freestanding product.

9. Will it bleach my dental work?  Caps, crowns, veneers?
No, You should talk to your cosmetic dentist about this.  Most will suggest you whiten your natural teeth
to the level of whiteness you are looking to achieve and then have the dentist whiten your dental work to
match your natural teeth.

10.  Are there any restrictions after the whitening?
YES!  Think of your teeth as a sponge for the next 48 hours.  They are susceptible to staining by any
dark colored foods or drink. We suggest you avoid coffee, tea, dark colored soda, nicotine, ketchup,
mustard and any other substance that its color will be absorbed for 48 hours.

11. Any suggestions after whitening?
YES.
  • If your teeth, by chance, are sensitive (WE HAVE NOT FOUND THIS TO HAPPEN) - purchase
    Sensodyne toothpaste
  • start using a toothpaste with whitening in it and use a tooth whitening mouthwash
  • Avoid staining materials

12.  Is there anyone that should not have their teeth whitened?
Yes, someone who has:
  • not seen a dentist within a year,
  • has active cavities (not filled),
  • needs a root canal or other major dental work,
  • is pregnant
  • Will not follow the instructions given by the technician
